I’m Lauren, founder and CEO of Beyond the Margin. With a background in performing arts, I’ve always been passionate about connecting with people through creative expression.

Over the years, I’ve gained qualifications in youth work, education and training, and trauma-informed therapeutic practice, each deepening my commitment to supporting those often described as ‘hard to reach.’

With more than 16 years of experience in the charity sector—ranging from volunteering in South America to fundraising for some of the UK’s largest charities—I’ve seen firsthand the power of compassion, creativity, and community.

At Beyond the Margin, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built: a space where community-based creative therapy and therapeutic support are truly accessible. We’re breaking down barriers and making essential services easier for people to reach and trust.

I genuinely believe everyone holds potential within them. Sometimes, all it takes is the right support to help unlock it and light the way forward.

I’m Charlotte, a dramatherapist with a deep love for creativity, connection, and the beautifully messy parts of being human. My journey began in theatre, but I soon realised I wanted to use the arts for more than performance; I wanted it to be a tool for healing and connection.

Over the past decade, I’ve worked across a wide range of settings, from adult mental health hospitals and SEN schools to children’s homes and residential care in both the US and the UK. No matter the space or age group, creativity has always been my constant.

In 2019, life threw me a few curveballs (as it does), and I found myself on the other side of therapy. That experience gave me the final nudge I needed, and I was ready to bring together my love of theatre, my passion for helping others, and my own lived experiences.

I qualified as a dramatherapist in 2023, after training at the University of Derby and completing placements in both charity and NHS settings. Now, I’m proud to be part of the Beyond the Margin team, offering therapy to those who are often overlooked by traditional services. It’s creative, real, and full of heart… just how I like it.

I believe in making dramatherapy accessible, grounded, and transformative, and I’m passionate about being part of a service that actively challenges health inequalities and brings creative therapeutic support to the communities that need it most.

I’m Alex, a mum of two with over 16 years’ experience working with children and families. I hold a Foundation Degree in Children, Young People and Their Services, and my journey has taken me from babysitting to nursery roles, eventually becoming a deputy manager at a nursery.

My professional experience, alongside my own parenting journey, has given me a strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and the value of building trusting relationships.

At Beyond the Margin, I love being part of a supportive, positive team where every day brings something new. The variety of projects keeps the work exciting, challenging and rewarding, and I’m proud to contribute to a service that truly makes a difference.

I’m Jade, and I work at Holmewood Community Library as part of the Beyond the Margin team. I’m proud to be part of a service that’s already made such a meaningful impact in a community that truly needed it.

I hold qualifications in Supporting Teaching and Learning, as well as Understanding Children and Young Adults with Mental Health. I’m passionate about creating a warm, welcoming space where everyone feels supported and where small acts can make a big difference every day.

I’m Abolade (Bola), an accounting professional with over 17 years of experience in financial reporting, audit, risk and controls, and compliance. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with many community-focused organisations, helping to ensure that funds are well managed and accurate records are maintained.

At Beyond the Margin, I serve as Finance Support Officer, keeping track of our finances, preparing budgets, and producing reports that support our mission to empower disadvantaged communities. My role helps keep the organisation running smoothly so our programmes in arts, sport, and community support can continue to make a difference.

I value being part of such a supportive team and enjoy using my skills to create a positive impact for children, young people, and families.
