Food Support is a lifeline for families in our community who struggle to put food on the table during critical periods such as the summer holidays, when children are home all day, and Christmas, when financial strain is at its peak.

By offering monthly food parcels and responding to urgent needs through referrals from schools and local organisations, Food Support makes sure families receive the support they need when it matters most.

Through food parcel distribution, Food Support:

  • Relieves immediate hunger and reduces financial stress for struggling families
  • Provides stability for children, ensuring they have access to regular, nourishing meals
  • Strengthens community bonds by working alongside local schools and centres to reach those in need
  • Supports families in crisis, offering both practical relief and emotional reassurance

Food Support delivers hope and dignity, not just food. By meeting basic needs, it enables families to focus on stability, healing, and the future.

Recognising how essential food is for both physical and mental wellbeing, especially for children as they grow and develop, we use Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs to underpin much of our work.

This project helps us meet the most basic yet vital needs of both children and adults in our community.

We’re approaching our first year of supporting the community through food parcels. In that time, we’ve supported over 120 families with more than 400 parcels.

Many families have shared their gratitude, describing the massive impact this support has had on their lives. We’ve also stepped in outside our pre-arranged dates to help families referred by local organisations and schools.

For example, a single parent with five children was referred to us by a local community centre after recently moving into the area from the south. When they collected their first food parcel, they were overwhelmed with relief, knowing they could reliably feed their children each month. They described the support as a true “lifesaver.”

Another couple with two children was referred to us by their school. Mum had recently come out of hospital and was still making regular trips back and forth. The cost of taxis, along with time spent away from loved ones, took a heavy toll on both their finances and mental wellbeing. Every month, Dad is one of the first to arrive for a parcel, and the family has shared how grateful they are for the support.
