Dedicated mental health support for men, creating safe spaces where they can talk, connect, and be heard.

Working with local voluntary services across BD4—including Primetime at the Vine, DR Woodland, Bierley Community Centre, and St John’s Bowling Community Hub— This project has funded and strengthened male-focused work in the community.

Alongside this, we have supported to access staff and service users with suicide awareness and trauma-informed training, ensuring support is both responsive and sustainable. Our partner organisations deliver weekly men’s support groups, complemented by formal one-to-one and group dramatherapy sessions delivered by Beyond the Margin.

Men Matter helps to:

  • Improve men’s overall wellbeing and resilience in and around BD4, reducing male suicide rates.
  • Support men experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, and isolation
  • Break down barriers to support by taking therapy into community settings where men already feel comfortable

“People always said I needed support like this, but I didn’t think it would help. Now I realise it’s helped more than I imagined.
A friend noticed the change in me—even before I did.”

Reaching men with one-to-one therapy who might never otherwise have accessed support.

Launched in 2025 as a pilot project, Men Matter has already connected with men who might never have sought help elsewhere. By working within familiar community settings, we’ve been able to reduce stigma and encourage participation.

These men look forward to meeting with the therapist every week. The sessions have made a positive impact on their outlook, and they’ve even shared with their peers how therapy is helping them manage symptoms in daily life,” say staff at the centre.

We’ve also delivered group therapy in another centre with men facing cultural barriers to accessing support. The group created a safe space for shared experiences, while staff received training to continue offering trauma-informed support long-term.
