Uniform Swap Shop
The Uniform Swap Shop provides families with free school uniforms in a dignified, discreet, and sustainable way, easing financial pressure and supporting children’s education.

What we’re doing
An initiative by two community members, giving families access to the uniforms they need without stigma (since 2024)
Families are welcome to collect items whenever they need, while local people donate good-quality pre-loved uniforms to keep the cycle going.
The Uniform Swap Shop:
- Offers free new and pre-loved school uniforms
- Reduces waste and supports sustainability through donations
- Provides wraparound support for families facing wider challenges
- Empowers residents to lead and run the project, building community ownership
How it’s going
Providing over 250 families with free school uniforms, lifting financial pressure and restoring dignity.
In its first year, the Swap Shop has supported over 250 families, distributing more than 800 items of uniform. Parents tell us this has eased financial strain, reduced stress, and given their children confidence to attend school feeling prepared and included.
The project has also built stronger community connections—families who donate know they’re directly helping neighbours, while sustainability benefits the wider environment. Most importantly, families describe the service as a lifeline, lifting the pressure of uniform costs and ensuring children are never left out.
